Child
Welfare
The role of a parent needs to be to love
and nurture their children all the time. Yet there are children
out there who aren’t getting their basic needs met. Some of
them are terrified to go home as they never know what will be
taking place. Child neglect and abuse are too common on our
society. It is the role of child welfare to step in and take
action. This is why it is so important for those that suspect
any type of abuse in a home to report it to the
authorities.
Even with such reports made though there
is no guarantee that the children will be removed from the
home. It depends on the circumstances that are involved. With
instances of physical or sexual abuse they are taken for their
own safety. If it is just neglect or a lack of money though the
parents often are part of an intervention. They will be
assigned to a caseworker who helps them to make positive
changes.
Some people really are doing the best
that they can so it is hard to judge them too harshly when it
comes to the care of their children. Yet breaking these cycles
of poor child rearing is extremely important. Children learn so
much based on what is going on around them each day. Some
parents need to take classes to learn how to effectively
interact with their children.
Some may have issues with drugs or
alcohol that they need treatment for. When child welfare is
involved a plan of action has to be implemented. The family has
to work with them in order to get things on track. This can be
an ongoing process for any length of time. Should the child
welfare system not deem the family as making effective changes
then the children could be permanently removed from the
home.
Children often don’t have a voice as to
what happens to them in a home. They need to know they aren’t
alone. The child welfare system is in place to help ensure
their needs are taken care of. They may have to be removed from
their natural environment in order for them to be able to
thrive in society.
